When I rented the smartphone at the airport, the clerk said "somebody will call you in the middle, and you pay. (sic)" I had to make sure I understood her considering it was about payment. After some questions from me and confusing answers from her, I figured that since my rental period goes over July and August, they wanted me to pay for each month instead of one collective payment of the total amount upon returning the phone in August and would call me at the end of July to tell me how much the charge for the month would be.
I calculated the basic rental amount and wrote it down so I could have an idea of how much they would say would charge me when they call. I get easily confused about numbers especially over the phone and more so when it's about foreign currency. I assumed that the charge would be about 22 man won (1.5 man yen) or so including the calls and messages.

And so I got a call from them today. I answered in English without knowing who it was, and after a moment of silence the woman on the other end asked me in Japanese if it was me who rented the phone. I said yes while taking out the note with the estimated charge written down. Then she says "Your charge is about 22 man won. Is it ok we charge it to your credit card?"

ABOUT 22 man won, is it? (22 man won kurai, she said.)

I am definitely in a foreign country. Wouldnt one expect to hear the exact amount?

The number she gave me was what i estimated, and her Japanese sounded too shaky to discuss something that was not in the manual, so I just said go ahead.

I will confirm the details of the charge when I return the phone in August.
