And next, to the ortho. 今日は副院長先生であった。I exaplained how the holding arch was hurting my palate and keeping me up at night. She took it off, which hurt like hell. She said that it is normal that the tooth side of the plastic pad tends to press hard against the palate, but mine probably was pressing too harshly. She looked at the pad and said since it's dirty, it means that the other side (throat side) of the pad must be loose, letting the food crumbs in between the pad and the palate (ew). So the appliance does not fit my mouth any more! She suggested they take another mold of my upper jaw and make a new appliance. Yes, please, please do that. I'm not putting that same appliance back on again. She said she'd spray where it hurts to see if I can stand taking a mold today. I prepared myself and waited for the water to hit the palate...Ahhh! I was convulsed with pain. "あー、やっぱり今日はやめましょう" said she.
She asked 院長先生 to come take a look. He told her to tie the canines (to what, I don't know) so they won't move back toward the front while I'm without the holding arch, and told me to come back when the palate feels better.
As she tied my canines, she explained that she wanted to make sure with him that I would still go with the palatal appliance, and not implants. There is a possibility that I might have to get them for the upper jaw later on because if I didn't, my upper teeth might not move back enough, she said. But since that would require a surgical procedure, they would stick to the current treatment for awhile to see if it works. I'm not going to worry about it now. I'm too tired.
I'm not in constant pain any more, and I feel like I can finally breathe. When I run my tongue on the palate, it feels raw. It'll be a couple of days before I'm ready to let them take a mold. Maybe Monday or Tuesday.

No charge.
