Interview with the Vampireを読んでいる。This is my third attempt. I tried reading it for the first time in 1991 when a friend lent it to me. 吸血鬼ものは萩尾望都の「ポーの一族」を子供の頃に読んで以来、恐くてロマンチックで大好きだから、きっとこれも好きに違いない、と思ったが、for some reason, I couldn't get into it. 漫画じゃなかったからか・・・。結局途中で読むのをやめて返した。
A few years later, back in Japan, I saw the movie "Interview with the Vampire." I enjoyed it and thought I would try the book again. I bought the overpriced original at Kinokuniya (this was before amazon.co.jp), and started reading it. But again, I couldn't get into it. 映画を見て、ストーリーはおもしろいと思ったし、本の方がもっとおもしろいに違いない、と感じたのだが、どうも集中力が続かなくて、結局また途中でやめて、本棚の奥に仕舞いこんだ。
そして数日前、本棚を整理していて再会。おー、I remember you, we didn't really get along so well.と思いつつ、初めの数ページに目を通す。あら、おもしろいわ。I sat down and read a few more pages. This is GOOD! I don't know why I didn't like it before. 夜寝る前に読むとたまらんのよ、これが。読みながら、首筋に手を当ててみたりして。あたしがバンパイアになってずっと生き続けなければならないってことになったら、それこそ地獄だな。バンパイアだからということよりも、生き続けなければならない、ってのが。

それにしても、映画を見たときには、Kirstin Dunstはstrikingly beautiful childだと思ったが、どうしちゃったんだろう。成長過程で何が起こったのか。混乱したファッションセンスのせいか。まだ２３なのに、えらく老けて見えることもある。とりあえず、この人はロングヘアーの方が似合う気がする。
