トスカーナの休日 [DVD]"Under the Tuscan Sun." My god, it was stupid. It's a movie written and directed by a middle-aged woman full of convenient, naive, college-girl fantasies. An American woman takes a trip to Italy after a divorce. Sees an old villa on sale and buys it on impulse. This happens, what, about 15 minutes into the movie, and I already have a problem. Are you a permanent resident? You have a proper visa? You can't just take a trip to a foreign country and decide to STAY there. If I could live abroad without a visa, I swear I would move TODAY. The rest of the movie was made of typical cliches. Aaah, if life could only be that EASY. I rolled my eyes at the ending.
The movie is based on a memoir. I haven't read it (and I probably never will), but from what I understand, the author never got divorced, and had spent summers in Tuscany before deciding to move there, so obviously the movie makers added those ridiculous dramas to make it "interesting." The result is yet another chick flick.
I can't believe Roger Ebert gave it three stars out of four. I also give three stars, but out of ten: one for Diane Lane's beauty (I have always liked her looks. And she is a pretty good actress, too), one for the gorgeous views of Tuscany, and one for that handsome Italian guy who wanted to swim in Diane's eyes. Ooh, he was hot.

Just heard Sandra Oh who played Diane's best friend filed for divorce from that "Sideways" director. Too bad. Wonder if she is taking a trip to Italy.
