Arrived at the hospital at 10:25. Sat down, expecting to wait for at least half an hour, but they called my name 5 minutes later! 5 minutes! Amazing. Even thought there was another person by the same name, but it indeed was me they wanted.
My oral surgeon was working on a middle-aged man next to my chair. He must have felt a twinge and cried out in pain. The doc said "It hurts? Then is it OK I give you an anesthetic?" The patient, sounding confused, said "Huh? What do you mean 'is it OK'?" I had to suppress a smile. The doc explained "Well, it'll hurt. I need to stick a needle in your gum." The patient immediately replied "That's NOT a problem. Pleeease go ahead." Whatever the doctor did to him must have hurt pretty badly.
While waiting for the anesthetic to kick in, the doc came over to my chair. I watched him intently and made sure that he washed his hands, which he did.
He said hello and asked how the gum felt. I told him it feels a little strange around where the suture was. He just nodded, and pressed the lingual side of the gum and asked if that hurt. Nothing. He ran his finger on the outer side of the gum, and said it's still red, but feels just fine, and it should heal soon. Good.
I asked him about the bumpiness of my gum, if I could just leave it as long as it does not hurt. He examined it again, and said that it doesn't look abnormal and it should be smoother by the time the treatment ends. Bone resorption and regeneration will continue, and my gum should look less bumpy later on. He added that if it starts hurting again like it did this time, I sould come see him. I hope that'll never happen. Seriously, I do.
